Introduction: Wellbeing in the workplace is climbing closer to the top of the business agenda. Government regulations coupled with the risk of high compensation claims are bringing Wellbeing directly under the noses of the C-suite. In her regular bulletin, Katrina Walton from Wellness Designs in Brisbane wrote today: Now more than ever, employee wellbeing is taking centre stage. In fact, in a recent global survey across 46 countries and 1100 companies, it was reported as the top priority for companies for the next 5 years (2022-2023 AON Global Wellbeing Survey). As a result: The more companies trying to make workplaces ‘well’, the better… The AON report might be helpful to you to get more support from your senior management. The Irony of all this is that some of the companies that produce these reports spend little on Wellbeing for their people. |

Financial Stress |
I know I have written about this already, but it is a pressing issue. I spoke with Tony Rabah, CEO of The Male Hug, and he was telling me that in the accounting profession, more and more practitioners are seeing the signs of devastating financial pressure. People are facing mortgage stress, increased cost of living due to inflation and, of course, rapidly rising energy costs. Are you personally prepared for the size of your heating bills this winter. It will be like nothing we have ever seen. And NAB reported this past week that foreclosures are beginning. Are any of your people silently suffering? Do they need support. For some, financial distress is profoundly humiliating and so speaking up is almost unthinkable. For this reason, it may be helpful for you to get a little nosey. You may not be able to solve their problem, but initiating some conversation is the first step toward getting support. |
Health and Wellness Coaching in the Workplace |
At the Global Wellness Institute, we also have a Wellness Coaching Initiative. They do great work. Recently they published a White Paper titled “Health and Wellness Coaching in the Workplace for Sustainable Business Outcomes”. It is a free download and is worth a look. You can find it here. |

Perhaps a great way of bringing your people together is to support them to register for and train for an event. Coastrek, founded by Diane Westaway, is a brilliant event. Your team of four, which must contain at least two women, can walk a variety of distances from 20km to 60km. Learn more here. |
Cancer Recovery and Return to Work |
Stay tuned. At the Global wellness Institute, we will be organizing a recorded conversation around the subject of “Returning to work following Cancer Diagnosis, or Cancer Treatment”. This is a challenging time for a person and our program is designed to help employers and managers learn how to be the most supportive for the employee as they begin their journey back into pre-illness life. |
A New Poster Coming – Building Natural Immunity WE have a new poster in production. This one teaches your people how to go about developing a strong personal immune system. It is laid out like the main care poster, with each panel describing something that can be done to improve immunity, for example, Vitamin D supplementation. Within the panel there is a QR Code. When you scan the code, it opens a video with a Doctor of Integrative Medicine giving more instruction about that particular area of building immunity. Stay tuned…. |

A Simple, Helpful Tip |
Back pain can occur when sitting or standing too long. In these instances, the Transverse Abdominus (TA), the “corset muscle” may not switch on, which leads to overloading of other muscles in the lower back. Simply lifting one foot slightly off the floor and standing on one leg will switch the TA on. Go back and forth a few times to experience some relief from the ache. |
